From the shadows
I haven't blipped for a couple of days but when I saw the sky tonight I had to make the effort, so i jumped in the car and headed to the moss to catch the last of the sunset.
I played on the moss when I was wee, and all the memories of this time came flooding back to me tonight.
I spent many a day playing on the Moss out of my mothers watchful eye, jumping the peat bogs (and falling in!), digging the old bottle dumps, making dens. My primary school was built on the moss. It was a huge part of my life and I didn't realise it.
Tonight the memories were highlighted by the sense of smell. Somewhere in this huge play park was a grass fire and the unmistakable smell of peat burning. This triggered the memory of lying in my bed as a child and hearing the sound of the fire engines heading for the moss to put out the latest fire set by a junior pyromaniac.
The other sensory experience tonight was the shouts and hollars that could be heard from the rugby club, as they put themself through their training The club has the good fortune to have their training ground on this beautiful landscape, and its sort of gone full circle as my sons now play their rugby at this local club and have the opportunity to enjoy this landscape in their youth too.
Its funny how the wheel turns. :)
