Skull

Over the past few weeks I've been visiting a few old kirkyards in Aberdeenshire and I've seen many fascinating things there including many of these memento mori pieces which are supposed to remind us of mortality ... this one I saw in St. Mary's Kirkyard in Banff is that first one that I think really looks sinister ... there is something about the skull and its position that make it stand out from the others.

In addition to the skull & bones type memento mori, St. Mary's has lots of written ones with such cheery phrases as

time flyeth, Death perfueth

And

Life how short
Eternity how long

For those who like history its a great place to visit and its right in centre of Banff so easily accessible.
