Krakow

After a lazy Saturday and an early-ish night we were up at the crack of dawn to catch a train to Krakow. It was to be my second visit to the former Polish capital, having ventured down there on a day trip on a very bitterly cold December day last year.

Well, you wouldn't have thought it was a weekend in August, as we rolled through the countryside under grey skies and as we arrived to a sufficiently heavy shower that warranted getting the pac-a-macs out.

Grabbed a dib-dab (Ninny phrase) to the hotel we'd booked (settled for a Top Secret deal on Lastminute that found us in perfectly decent hotel, just south of the Kasimierz district), dumped our stuff and headed back out, across the river and through the Jewish quarter, up past Wawel and into the Old Town. It turned out to be a lovely afternoon, without too much kagool action and in no particular order we shopped, took a horse and carriage ride, went to the House of Beer and had very un-Polish food.

Saw a lot more of the city than I did last year. Probably something to do with the fact I wasn't huddled into my coat and not looking up!!

Oh and this is one of the many colourful pianos, dotted around the place, in celebration of the Year of Chopin. Couldn't get a tune out of it though.
