Quake

Today after a very shaky nights sleep with a few after shocks we decided to go into Kaiapoi, a town little over ten minutes away to see the damage.
It was gut renching.

Streets I used to run down for rowing were now all turned and uplifted.
The big department store next to my dentists roof has caved in.
The coastguard buliding I once trained at, may possibly have to be demolished.

We are soo lucky the quake didn't effect Rangiora, as many from Christchurch and Kaiapoi are coming out to stay with relatives.

I still can't believe after fourty or so seconds of shaking could destroy so many peoples homes and their community.
But thank god no one has died from the 7.1 magnitude quake that hit in the early hours yesterday.
And I pray that the worst is over.

The circular photo at the top is a hydrant that has uplifted from the ground. And the two lower images are from a car park completely ruined and a entrance way to rugby rooms.
