The most ingenious of man's creations
"The knife is the most permanent, the most immortal, the most ingenious of man's creations."
~ Yevgeny Ivanovich Zamyatin
This is yesterday's knife up close. I wish I had a macro lens to bring out the exquisite beauty of this Damascus steel blade, but a closer look will give you some idea. The blade is approximately 12 inches/30 cm long, the bolster is copper, the handle oak.
Over the years - owing to this unusual obsession of mine - I've met a good many knife makers, but Achim Wirtz, the man who crafted this one, is a prince among them. He is also the loveliest of men and has great patience with me and my endless questions.
