Pre-op
On Thursday this week #2 son will be having reconstructive surgery on his wonky nose, which was badly broken in a school sports accident years ago, and has made breathing difficult ever since. Now that he's 18 he's finally eligible for NHS treatment to straighten it out; not cosmetic surgery, as the surgeon took pains to point out. At the pre-op assessment today the procedure was explained in full gory detail, which #2S took quite stoically, although #2 daughter who was with us nearly fainted. Looking thoughtful on the way home, #2S expressed concerns that he was doing the right thing (although he's been pestering to get it fixed for years) - the only worry he has is that he'll end up with no septum "like that actress on the telly who took cocaine". Luckily he seems to have overlooked the certain outcome of looking like a severe traffic accident victim with a bruised and battered face for a few weeks....
