Sri Lanka - Day 4

8am start today - better! Headed for Polonnaruwa, an ancient capital, to view the monuments within the World Heritage Site. Bundhu enthusiastically explained the history behind it all, but after a while all the monuments started to look the same, and combined with touts, heat and dust meant I lost interest fairly quickly. It was a bit like visiting seven Stonehenges in a row - the first one fascinating, the second one less so, etc etc. Anyway Bundhu got the message I think, and the full tour soon morphed into a highlights package.

Stopped in Dambulla on the way back as we thought we'd try the lunch challenge again, and blimey this time we managed to get some curry filled rolls and savoury snacks from a local bakery. Mrs DP then pushed further by asking to stop at a.... post office. "You can give your postcards to the hotel and they will post them!" suggested Bundhu, but we insisted on the DIY approach, thus rebelling and going off-piste again. Right troublemakers we are. Maybe we're just too used to doing our own thing when away, but he's learning slowly. He did though follow her in to make sure she was ok. Bless.

Rest of the day spent by the pool (napping in my case).
