Day 5 - Napa to Sacramento
After a leisurely breakfast in the motel we headed into Napa for the traditional fridge magnet souvenir then up through the valley towards Rutherford, passing umpteen vineyards. Then headed towards Sacramento which was our stop for the night, dumping the car with the valet at the Delta King - a restored paddle steamer which was to be our lodgings for the night. J was driving by now so a welcome rest for me.
Sacramento turned out to be a surprisingly attractive place to stay for the night, with the old town restored to Wild West splendour, complete with wooden boardwalks. We headed first for the State Capitol building where we had a tour on it's history - really interesting. Followed that with a mooch around the mall and a coffee break in Starbucks, before heading back to the old town where a couple of glasses of Blue Moon was called for.
Dinner in the Rio City Cafe right on the riverfront, with us both having big healthy salads and glasses of Napa red. A good nights sleep should have followed but noise from a party on the boat and phone calls to reception put paid to that. A shame as Sacramento really appealed to us.
