A rare sight on the marsh

I walked on Stanpit marsh this afternoon with my husband and my daughter who unexpectedly visited. We spotted this bird which members of the Christchurch Ornitholigical group told me was a black glossy ibis - a rare sight only seen four times previously on the marsh. This is a beautiful bird and made my afternoon as I try to learn the birds we see ... I dont think I will forget this one. The marsh is so different every time we visit and despite numerous visitors this afternoon it had its same relaxing effect.
