The Pier
In the past 24 hours I've had an ISO epiphany. I know, it sounds funny...but its true. I've had my DSLR for 3 months and way back in the beginning someone told me to set my ISO on 100. I'm sure they didnt mean "and leave it there." I left it there all this time.
Last night I was taking an indoor shot of the kids and all were under exposed or blurred from the slow shutter speed. I went through the problem in my head over and over. What did I do wrong? If I aimed the flash down towards my subjects their faces blew out, yet if I aimed it up it was too dark. I adjusted the shutter speed and aperature...and it didnt work! Ugh!
And then it hit me...
So this evening I went down to Montrose Beach on Lake Michigan. I've lived here my whole life and have never been there. I walked through the harbor and shot the boats, and then continued down the beach shooting everything in sight. I wasnt trying to compose a nice picture. I was simply experimenting with ISO and other settings at dusk. It was purely a technical adventure.
Oh yeah, and I got some really nice shots.
