Balboa Park

I took an early morning walk in Balboa Park marveling at the incredible architecture scattered throughout the 1,200 acre park located on a mesa north of downtown San Diego. The park was the location for both the 1915 Panama-California Exposition and 1935 California Pacific International Exposition. Each exposition contributed significantly to the architectural masterpieces the dot the park.

The lighting was too flat for effective building photos and even the facade shots were too dull for inclusion here. When we had previously visited, the gardens were in full bloom, but last day of summer was not the time for great flower photographs. I was starting to worry that my early morning wanderings would go for naught when I happened upon these leaves next to the Casa de Balboa bathed in a soft, overcast light. My desire for early morning sunshine vanished in the click of a shutter.
