So I throw my cards on your table....
Sunday nights, 9.30 meet B & D at the Rose for a game of crib, play until closing time.
We've done this for years, D scores, B keeps a record of who wins and we have a really tacky little trophy for the one who wins the most over the year. Me.... I just play.
It's high stakes stuff as well, 20 pence per game, one year I won with £7.20 gained over the year!
This hand D scored 4 points, B scored 6 and I had 8, the box was D's and scored 0!
We've played so much that we even named hands after each other, the score we most often get in a hand. I'm 16, B is 12 and D is 2. It doesn't always work like that though, tonight I'm devastated, lost 5 straight games, down by £1!
We've also nearly had some spectacular fall outs over the game, probably down to my competetive streak and B's propensity for winding me up and generally being irritating when he's winning.
One year B complained so much about how he kept losing he started claiming he could only afford to feed his children on baked beans, so Christmas Eve after midnight D and I snuck round to his house and left two tins of beans on his doorstep "from Santa".
People used to come up to us and ask us what we were palying and often ask for an explanation of the rules, but that hasn't happened for a while. Ive tried to teach the other two other games like Texas Hold 'Em but they can't get the hang of it, so now I guess we're just the boring old farts playing cards in the corner.
