National Day

Today was a public holiday in Hong Kong - for National Day, but it was definitely a busy day with lots of plans! I had a conference call in the morning which wrapped up just after noon. Mel and I headed for South Bay beach around 1:45 where we enjoyed one of the clearest, sunniest days we've had in HK in awhile. We left the beach at 4 to go to our friend's house to lounge by his pool and have a BBQ. I made friends with several little frogs on the edge of his pool (I felt like Dr Dolitte as they hung out and bounced around on my hands and arms for a good 15 minutes before I finally put them down). The view from my friend's deck was absolutely incredible as the sun went down; yet another stunning and colourful HK sunset. I read my book and enjoyed the company of old and new friends. Mel and I left just after 7pm to meet 2 friends in town who just got engaged. We joined them at the yacht club where we had a few drinks in the cool breeze before the national day fireworks began. We couldn't have asked for a better vantage point to watch the fireworks, not having to battle the crowds we would have if we had gone to a restaurant or anywhere in Tsim Sha Tsui. Another drink before calling it a night (and a wonderful day!) and Mel is now asleep on my couch again... :)
