The Star of Berlin
Marlene's Star is inbedded in the pavement outside the Film Museum in Berlin.
Today is the big celebration of Berlin's Unification. I headed to Check Point Charlie to see the place that separated this City. It was the most unspectacular thing I have ever seen, but it is good to know that this place no longer has any power. It is now just a tourist attraction with fake US soldiers who pose for photos.
The best thing I took from the area was a postcard of a soldier helping a little boy through the barbed wire to the other side of Berlin. The soldier looks scared but it doesn't stop him separating the wire for the boy. The back of the postcard tells how the soldier got transferred for disobeying orders.
He may have been punished but at least he can live with himself.
