Thursday Night Lights

Southern California is definitely sports crazy. The Desert Sun, the Palm Springs newspaper which I get every morning (see Tuesday?s blip entry), is full of the exploits of the area high schools - football, swimming, cross country, water polo, tennis, and volleyball. Being the volleyball fans we are, we spend most Tuesday and Thursday nights in a local gym watching.

Tonight was a battle of two unbeaten high school teams, Xavier and Palm Springs. Electricity was in the air as the teams lined up for the singing of the national anthem and 400 or so fans packed the stands. I wish I had thought to bring my DSLR or even leave my seat to get this shot, but I was there as a fan first. It was all I could do to pull out my point-and-shoot to get this quick shot of the calm before the storm of action on the court.
