A little sample Feedback always welcome with grateful thanks. Does the bride not radiant the warmth of her personality...
It was hard leaving the boys at the UCLA school picnic: I wouldn't ordinarily miss any part of this, but today, perhaps, there was a good reason. And so after just 90 minutes, I was off.
Delighted to be 2nd shooter to Sherri Johnson. 7 great hours of shooting and with Sherri so wonderfully flexible with her brief, I made a decision to focus on the many bridesmaids and groomsmen, particularly loving the late afternoon sun, moments before it set below the mountains beyond and taking the kind of shots I know and love best. All that lovely bokeh.
When I used to shoot purely child photography a couple of years back, my motto was "from birth to birthday and every ounce of magic in between". And in a sense, this is an extension of that sentiment, capturing people who believe in love. I'm happy that they're not engaging with the camera; I want to see the magic as they engage with each other, to capture the intimacy as if in a private moment, as in here.
So, interestingly, my bride shots are few in comparison because I didn't wish to interfere with Sherri's art, but the warmth between the couple was so inviting, at times, I just couldn't resist. If of course you're selling yourself as a wedding photographer, it's a high risk game because the bride is predominantly the decision maker. Yet if you put such personal motivation aside and try to capture beautiful moments for the bride and groom beyond their gaze, you'll be creating a cherished gift.
I'll post a link once Sherri's posted her photos. And anyway, you've gotta see all the fun I was having with the guys. Thanks Sherri for the great opportunity, for sharing your trade secrets and your flexibility. It was fun working with you.
