Marjorie's ramblings

We love walking

Day 3 of the Haltwhistle Walking Festival. The weather was better today, with clear views over Hadrian's Wall. The sun even came out in the afternoon.

Here is M, another one of the volunteers who leads and backs up on walks. She is also our company secretary. I like this image because it demonstrates the fun we have when we are out walking and how much we enjoy ourselves.

I have now walked 35 miles since Saturday morning. Tomorrow is only 7+ and then I have a day off to rest. We walked from Haltwhistle to Melkridge today, then up (and up and up) to Winshields Crags and the trig point for lunch, and back to Haltwhistle along Hadrian's Wall Trail to Aesica Roman fort before descending to the town.

Did you know that the origin of Haltwhistle is nothing to do with the railway as I had assumed? It comes from haut which is French for high and twisel which is an old English word for a fork, in this case the fork where the Haltwhistle Burn joins the South Tyne river.
