Joust Not Fair
A fair bit of running around today, most of it, fair to say, unnecessary.
Samantha's car was due a service so we set off at the crack of 9:30 to drop it off. Samantha forgot the service book though, so phoned and asked if I could bring it along (wummin!). No problem. But then Euan got wind we were off for a cooked breakfast and decided at the last minute that was much more preferable to a bowl of shredded wheat. So, I had to wait for him to get dressed and sort out his bird's nest hair before heading off to pick up his mum from the garage. But in all the commotion I forgot the service book (men!).
As the car wasn't going to be ready 'til mid afternoon the plan was to pop along to Stirling Castle and spend a while in there. But, checking our Historic Scotland member's cards we realised they'd expired and the new ones were in a drawer back home. So, it was a trip back to the house (via a Morrison's breakfast) to collect those.
Eventually made it up to the Castle which was nice and quiet considering it's half term here. They had lots laid on for the kids, including this realistic jousting simulation and recreations of the Battle of Stirling Bridge with water pipe insulation swords. Euan had a go with a crossbow and begged me not to join the queue to try out this jousting lark myself (he's at that funny age where anything his parents do is cripplingly embarrassing). All good fun.
We headed back to be mugged at the garage (how can such a tiny car that's hardly been run-in cost that much to service; a burly grease monkey could pick it up in their shovel like hands, give it a shoogle and if nothing falls off, it'd be done) then back home for some home-made shepherd's pie.
Settling down now for some Dr. Who international football tonight (the kind you have to watch from behind the settee) as Scotland hopefully field 11 goal keeper's against the mighty Spain.
Actually, wearing tin buckets on their heads and fighting off the attacks with broom handles like the wee girl here might be a better plan...
