King's Seat
That's a great looking tree. Not sure why I hadn't noticed it before. Then again, despite popping up to visit the tower up on the hill here a few times, I realised I hadn't ventured over this side of the hill. There's some good views over Alloa to be had from here - just a pity it was so grey and damp tonight. Will be back when the October sun's setting through those branches.
Also found out that King Robert the Bruce took a wee seat on a rock up here (maybe whilst he waited as one of his servant chappies went off to find the gauntlet he dropped a short distance from here.) Found the stone he apparently sat on, it's just through the gate next to the gnarly tree. It has 'Boab wiz here' written on it, that's how I knew it was the right stone. There was some discarded McDonald's packaging nearby (not surprising as you can almost smell the nearby fast-food place from here) so he probably had some Chicken McNuggets whilst he paused to admire his neebur Willy Wallace's monument in the distance.*
Another bit of local history uncovered that had slipped me by up until now. This Blipfoto lark's a proper education so it is.
*Thankfully I don't teach history
