St Michaels and All Angels Sopley
I often drive home through Sopley a small village by the River Avon. It has a lovely mill and tea rooms and I sometimes think I will stop for tea - but usually have no time. Today I stopped by the church and paid it a quick visit. Its a beautiful church with numerous blip opportunities.
Until the 13th century the church was a simple building occupying the space between the tower and the transept arches. Since then each century has seen changes and the building reflects the numerous additions over time.
The font standing below the west window is of so plain a type that it is apparently difficult to state its age exactly; it probably dates from around the 14th Century.
The church has some beautiful stained glass which I photographed but I liked the simple lines of this end of the church...the clock gives away that I could have got back to the office but I had no lunch break and what is flexi for if I never leave off early!!!!
