How to Hide a Staircase
As Stealth House is an upside-down house with the Upper Ground Floor projecting out from the top of the slope and the bedrooms tucked down below, the stairs go down from the sitting area.
I didn't want to draw attention to the stairs - no show-off glass staircase for us - but, rather, wanted to draw the eye across to a painting on the wall. The solution we came up with was to have a solid plastered blockwork bookcase as a balustrade.
Here's the skeleton in place, now just imagine chunky wooden shelves and colourful book spines. There will also be a table lamp on the ledge. I hope to post a photo of the finished piece and I trust that the stairs will not be obvious!
