Duddingston Kirk in morning light
I am going to do a few blips around here over the next days.
A beautiful Edinburgh morning, and the entrance to Duddingston Kirk A church has stood here since 1124.
On the left of the picture at the entrance to the graveyard is the Watchhouse, built as a lookout point to deter "bodysnatchers" in the early 19th century. The Edinburgh bodysnatchers, known as 'resurrectionists', stole recently-buried corpses to sell to anatomists, and, as in the notorious case of Burke and Hare, sometimes also resorted to murder.
On the right, the road leads into the Queen's Park - attached to Holyrood House. And occupying central position - this tree is celebrating the autumnal sunshine!
