a slice of life
example: condominium advertisement, "lumen at granville island"
source: the georgia straight; september 23-30/2010, pg 53
analysis:
advertisements, often full page, for condominiums are not just selling apartment suites or livable and sustainable architecture - they are now more so geared towards selling an attractive and enviable lifestyle.
this particular advertisement uses the concept of a pie chart to help make the lifestyle of the kitsilano neighborhood less abstract and more concrete, with a photo in every section to illustrate each facet of the community. it also visually plays with the metaphor "a slice of life", and puts the viewer in the bull's eye, claiming that you could very well be at the center of it all.
so, we really can have our pie and eat it too, but according to this advertisement, you'll have to live at the lumen on granville island.
