Autumnal

At this time of year the different varieties of vine can be distinguished from each other because the leaves turn different colours, some yellow, some brown, some red, so the parcelles, which aren't fenced or divided at all, can be seen. This is the view just north of our village, with Roquessels where we buy wine in the distance on the hill. The rocky hill in the centre has never been cultivated - for obvious reasons - and is said to have plants growing there which have been there since Roman times and which have disappeared from other ground.

The building between Roquessels and the rock is a large mazet, maybe even a house, now in ruins but beautiful and surrounded by wild olive trees. I took quite a lot of photos of the building today (and probably will again for blip) and, less successfully, of the wild olives blowing in the wind.

After yesterday's quite personal blip and the archive wedding photo, I thought it was time for a landscape.

For detail and a better idea of the expanse of this scene, look in LARGE.
