Mt Baw Baw!

Well today is my 300th consecutive blip! It feels like I have been doing this for ever (in a good way!) but it hasn't even been a year yet! This is such a wonderful environment to learn and experiment and just take photos! Thanks to Joe for developing this amazing space that we can all share and thanks to everyone else for making this a very unique, awesome environment! Special thanks go to my 'regular' commenter's who make me feel great about my photos and spur me on to keep learning and try to get better!!

It has been a very busy day for me! At 12.30am this morning (the middle of the night) the Tanker had to go to Tullamarine Fire Station to cover their area as they were out at a call. It is the complete opposite side of the Metropolitan Fire District to where I am here! A paper recycling centre had caught on fire and ended up being a massive job with about 80 firefighters on all sorts of trucks attending.

We were over there all night (trying unsuccessfully to sleep on the couch) and didn't leave until 10am which was after our regular end of shift. We had to wait until another crew from the oncoming shift came to relieve us so that we could go back to our station and go home! The oncoming crew from our station caught a taxi over to where we were with all their gear, then we got in that same taxi who took us back to our station! I didn't end up getting home until about midday!

It was a beautiful day so Kaz and I decided to take Spence and go for a drive up to Mt Baw Baw to look around. It is an Alpine National Park which is a popular place for skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing in the winter and bushwalking and mountain bike riding in the summer.

We drove up then went for a walk up to the summit so that I could take some photos and we could have a look around. Spence had slept a bit on the way up (it took just over an hour to drive there) and he did really well climbing up the steep hill to get to the top! The views are fantastic to the west and the east. It was funny seeing the place with no snow around and imagining where the runs would have been!

We walked back down then came back home then it was time for me to come to work again! We had our tea then we got a call in the Tanker to do a move up to another station about half an hour away. We had just got there and sat down when the truck we were covering for came back so we came back to our station!

I am hoping for a quiet night so I can catch up on some sleep after last night! Tomorrow Kaz, Spence and I will hopefully go on another adventure somewhere else! It is great that the weather is getting warmer and that Spence is old enough to take out and walk a fair way so we can go exploring!!

This is the view out towards the west from the summit of Mt Baw Baw. It is looking down one of the main ski runs that operates in winter. I have attempted a HDR in Photoshop and not sure whether I have pulled it off or not!! I am pleased to be giving it a go though!!
