Here's the proof that if you sponsor a child with Action Aid, write them a letter and send it to the random PO Box address in Africa you've been given - it will actually reach the child. Although I didn't know whether to laugh or cry as I visited this office in Kaolack, inundated by paper from donors across Europe; sad stories about old ladies who have lost their husbands and now want to help Senegalese children, pictures of people's cats, postcards of swans in Dorset...

Yes, it's a beautiful connection between people who are completely different, but part of me thinks that it might be easier for the 3 overworked staff here who spend their days taking photos of children and asking them to write letters, to maybe do some community development work instead....
