Out on the bike trail
Thursday
Our Indian summer continues. Roger was home today in honor of Veterans Day. We spent the morning at home - Roger raking leaves, and me ironing, then we went out to enjoy the rest of the day. The Little Miami trail, which we ride on quite regularly is the longest continuous paved bikeway in Ohio, and from its southern endpoint in Newtown, south of Milford, Ohio, it extends 75 miles northeast through Xenia to Springfield. Here it joins the Simon Kenton Trail that continues another 12 miles northward to Urbana, Ohio. Not only that, but in Xenia it intersects with two other trails, the Creekside, running west for 17 miles, and the Prairie Grass trail, extending east for about 27 miles. So there is quite an extensive network, even for the most enthusiastic cyclist! Today, we headed to the more northern section between Xenia and Springfield, to the artsy town of Yellow Springs, also home to Antioch College. We enjoyed a lovely lunch there, sitting outside in the sunshine, then we set out biking. We did a return trip of almost 16 miles, which my backside decided was quite enough, not having been on a bike for a number of weeks! My blip shows part of the Womens Park which runs alongside the trail for about 1/4 mile at the southern edge of Yellow Springs, near Antioch College. I thought it made quite a nice scene with the sun shining through the line of trees on the right - its just a shame about the telegraph wires!
I've just looked back at my year ago entry - it seems we spent the day in just the same way last year - just a different section of the bike trail!
