"Wherefore art thou..?"
Saturday
Today was the last day of our week of Indian summer, with temperatures reaching into the low 70s. As I write this, late at night, the temperatures have dropped and we have had some gentle rainfall. Knowing that clouds would move in during the afternoon, we got out mid morning up to Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park in Hamilton. Back in 1984, when Hamilton businessman Harry T. Wilks acquired a 40-acre property on which to build a home, little did he think it would develop into one of the relatively few open-air sculpture parks in the country. After clearing the land, building roads, installing ponds, constructing an extraordinary 7,000 square foot underground home, covered by a glass pyramid, and beginning a collection of sculptural antiquities from Greece, Italy, and Egypt to decorate it, he was approached by local businessmen to sell lots for homes. However, he wasn't prepared to sell what he had worked so hard on developing. So instead, he set about acquiring other parcels of land and decided to create a public sculpture park to save this environment. In May of 1995, he donated 265 acres sprinkled with sculpture, and Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park and Museum was incorporated as a non-profit organization so that the grounds and facilities would be preserved as a valuable cultural and environmental resource for future generations in southwest Ohio. The sculpture I show in my blip is relatively new to the park - we hadnt seen it before. It is entitled Wherefore art thou, and is by the sculptor Sam McKinney. It depicts Romeo on one side, and Juliet on the other, their hands reaching to touch through the heart shape at the top.
On our way back home we stopped for a very late lunch at a Middle Eastern restaurant which was new to me - Roger had been once for lunch from work. We enjoyed a lovely meal. At first we sat outside, but by this time the clouds were moving in and the wind was picking up, so when we had finished our appetizer we retreated indoors. When we got home I had time to get some ironing done before going up to Miami University for the ice hockey game against Alaska. They always play two games, one on a Friday evening and one on the Saturday evening. Yesterday Miami shut out Alaska 4-0, however today they were defeated in the closing 90 seconds of the game!
