Still Life during the Grand Prix
I headed out for a walk shortly after 9.00 and spent a pleasant hour and a bit strolling down to the Dún Laoghaire Pavilion and back. It was a frosty monring, but nicely invigorating for a walk.
Back in Carl's we settled down for a feast of TV, beginning with the omnibus which has been touted as 'changing Holloaks for ever'/ Okay, so there was a fire and one of the characters died, but we were expecting a major conflagration and a serious cull of characters, which is apparently the trademark approach of the new producer who's busily ruining what used be our fave soap. Ah well ...
The big, big TV event of the day, of course, was the race from Abu Dhabi, the final Formula 1 Grand Prix of the season. Mathematically, there were four drivers still in with a chance of becoming World Champion, with Fernando Alonso in the strongest position. As it turned out, Ferrari lost the title rather than Red Bull and Vettel winning it, since a poor pitting call left the Ferrari No. 1 with an impossible task on a circuit where overtaking was extremely difficult. I was delighted to see Sebastian Vettel take the crown in fairytale fashion, waiting until the very last race to lead the Championship for the first time - and the time it really mattered. A great season for Red Bull, who finished with both Drivers and Constructors titles under their belt, and a great season for F1 fans as well. I'd fully intended devoting today's blip to the race, but the afternoon light led me astray, which is why you're getting a still life instead.
I wended my way home after the race, and was surprised to discover that I was really tired and in need of a revivifying nap.
