Ridges - A Strange Obsession
We've just ended a stressful patch as the farmland around us which provides us with such wonderful views was up for sale. Fortunately my fears have been laid to rest now that a reputable and rather large farming concern have bought them.
The fields have always been ploughed flat, but this time the new owners have ploughed these big ridges into the field, apparently to use the frost to break the soil down and then it'll have potatoes grown in it. They'll be grown for Tesco and the such like so I guess the potatoes need to be pretty perfect, no odd ball shapes allowed.
The obsession began when i noticed how 3D these ridges are and how they make the field seem higher and more intrusive. The other thing that fascinates me and keeps catching my eye is how they are so masculin, bold and their ability to create deep shade in such a rigid pattern which changes throughout the day. I love them, they are architectural to look at, they train your eye to the view beyond, I will miss them when they are gone.
