Fear?
I had to pop into Asda after work today, to buy some ingerdients for soup. I'll be making soup for abouf 15 people tomorrow, as we're having a work away day (and a half). Sharing cooking duties, I volunteered to do the safe option: soup for starter!
Anyway, I thought I'd wander through the centre and enjoy the beautiful Christmas decorations. I was going to share them here, taking photographs of all the good work that has made the place feel decidedly festive. But, what I had failed to realise was that:
"They don't like you taking photographs in the Centre...".
I was made aware by a security attendant (just doing his job), and couldn't suppress my immediate reaction: "Oh! What a shame!". I don't think he expected those words...
So you have a photograph from outside in the cold. I guess that the Centre management has every right to decide whether people can take photographs or not. But I still think that it's sad that you can't share some of their fesitve efforts more widely.
And I can't help but wonder why? What interests are they trying to protect? What are they afraid may be portrayed by a photograph?
I guess that there are unscrupulous photographers about, but -, being part of the Blip community - my conclusion is that these must be few and far between: a definite minority. And that begs the question of the world in which we live: How small does a chance have to be that we can take a risk, assuming (hoping?) that the worst won't come to be?
Approaching Advent I'm more inclined to hope than fear. I'll take the hit if I'm wrong.
