Off to new beginnings

Königsberger Marzipan

When my dad's family had to flee East Prussia during the war, they took an old tradition with them - the one of producing Königsberger Marzipan. It's an awful lot of work to make 25 kg of marzipan, roll it out, produce nice little shapes and make an edge for it, dry them, then grill them for 2-3 minutes, and then fill them with icing. Then of course they get packed into little boxes and sent out with Christmas cards.

We were called in (along with other family and friends), to help production today. After a few hours straight, the enthusiasm faded and the consumption of prosecco increased exponentially. Still, it was a lot of fun, and when we left around 8pm, we were relieved by some new soldiers....

This is a shot of (some of) the marzipan left to dry in my dad's sauna. Which wasn't on by the way, just in case you wondered. It was just a handy place for them I guess.
