running towards nothing

British Library

We had a really good day's conference at the British Library in London, discussing how academic libraries will respond to challenging financial times ahead. Those of us who travelled down by train the night before were lucky: the snow meant that many delegates from the east of the country were either very late or didn't make it at all. The last time we all met was in the sunnily innocent days of June, before the Browne report and Comprehensive Spending Review. Is it called a pathetic fallacy when the weather conditions mirror a change in mood? If so, the icy blasts of government cuts were well represented in the temperatures today.

The statue in the background is Isaac Newton, by Eduardo Paolozzi.
