Little Grebe

Tachybaptus ruficollis

Well, about three weeks after I first spotted him (or her!), I finally got a photograph :)
Quite a distance away and heavily cropped, over-sharpened and with loads of chromatic aberration, but it is a record shot :(

It was a quick blipwander along the Water of Leith for me and meles this lunchtime, feeding the mallards and seagulls, when we spotted this wee bird. At first you think it might be a duckling, they're almost that small, then you realise that it's December and the thing keeps diving for fish....we saw two, in fact.
