Day 6
Rule #7 Never give up
Continuing my rant of yesterday on the subject of noise at night ...... well, last night it just took the biscuit! It is hot here at night, and there is no air conditioning, so we have to have the overhead fan on at full speed in order to get to sleep. That is all well and good, except it sounds like a spitfire propeller at something approaching full revs - and then sometimes the wind blows part of the mosquito net into the blades, and it suddenly changes to become more like a chainsaw. If that weren't enough every so often the fridge in our room starts up. Now I am very very thankful for that fridge, but it is a bit decrepit, and when it starts up it is reminiscent of an outboard motor. So, there was all that going on, but in addition last night there seemed to be a cat fighting something just outside our room ( maybe it was a snake? ) but it was a riotous noise (so I don't know if that meant that the cat had won or not). And when that finally stopped, the local dogs all seemed to go barmy - and all this even before the birds started their dawn chorus. I mean how is a man to sleep.
But the big news of the day, the really stupendous event that we had been longing for finally came to pass - yes, the luggage arrived, Mr Moulton and Mr Brown have made it (toiletries joke - we are both still slightly manic with relief and happiness). It was almost better than presents on Christmas day as we opened our 'presents' (cases) and excitedly rediscovered what we had packed seemingly aeons ago - we loving caressed our old friends- my razor, shampoo, freshly laundered boxers, suncream (factor 30), it was all so good - so the holiday could properly begin.
To celebrate that we had more than one set of clothes, J immediately put on her new bikini and was lying, reading in the hammock when she got poohed on by lizard - she was not best impressed - keeps you humble (when you stop laughing)
So we celebrated by having some industrial strength cocktails (but so good with the tropical fruit) and a fine dinner.
The picture is of the beach as the sun begins to go down
