The daily grind

I wonder how many days of her life this woman has spent washing clothes on the bank of this river in Kerala? People seem to spend a lot of time keeping themselves and their clothes clean in conditions we would find extremely challenging.

As we sailed on the lake and down the rivers today we saw so many people (usually women) doing the washing, or bathing their children. They could not understand why we liked to take photos of them doing this. Usually they were wreathed in smiles once they perceived us to be friendly. The people of Kerala are very gentle and keen to make friends with us at every turn.
