Captain's Logbook

By CaptainSensible

A different world.

Doing a survey this morning (I know it's a Saturday) the house was in Mile End, East London. In the kitchen was this old toolbox full of the most fantastic tools.

The tins were full of wax. The chisels were polished to a mirror finish on their backs. Every handle was worn smooth. The plane irons were immaculate. There were items that I simply didn't recognise.

I understand that his wife survived him by a number of years. I met his daughter who was handling the sale of the family house.

This toolbox was obviously too much of a statement of the man and his life to be parted with. It was an extraordinary glimpse of how things used to be done.
