Perilous bridge
This bridge is about a quarter of the way around my usual dog-walk and it crosses a shallow piece of water connecting a linear pond, known as the Electricity Cut, with the River Nene. Many years ago the main Peterborough Power Station was located next to the river, and it discharged its cooling water into the Cut.
The bridge is very flat and tends to collect water after periods of rainfall. There was just enough sleet and snow on Thursday to more or less fill it up, and of course, this has now frozen over into a smooth sheet of ice, which you can see if you view this in large.
I try and make sure no-one sees me cross the bridge at the moment, as I'm sure I must look rather odd. I cling to the railings and teeter along, as if I was at least twenty years older than I am. My excuse is that I have a knee which is prone to dislocate and I'm the only driver in the house, so I really can't afford to be put out of action by a fall.
So far we haven't had any real snow, unlike much of the rest of the country, and I'm really hoping it holds off as I have to drive to Sheffield tomorrow to collect Chris. I'm taking Alex with me for moral support!
