Earthquake Blankies

When my kids were babies, and sometimes now when they are sick, they will get their "blankies" and cuddle them. After the 7.1 earthquake here in Christchurch a lot of buildings were damaged but also inaccessible as the council put up heavy duty fencing and shipping containers to stop the public getting close almost immediately. This little power substation was on a busy main road and over time its bricks fell out onto the grass verge. One weekend we went passed and there were knitted and crochet "blankies" around the trees and initially individual bricks on the ground were also sewn into their own individual blankies. Today the workmen came to clear the site so I had to get out and do the emergency blip before that strange event was gone. I dont think anyone will believe me later that random public artists did that to what was essentially a demolition site. Unfortunately they had cleared the bricks on the ground but got there just in time to still get the trees and the "emergency tape" still in place.
Its got to be the most creative earthquake response we came across and worthy of a blip.
