Thaw

It always amazes me how quickly the snow disappears once the temperature rises sufficiently to facilitate a thaw. And how muddy the dogs get! We had a very eerie walk over the common this afternoon in thick fog. Every so often people would suddenly appear out of nowhere and I kept hearing the Hound of the Baskervilles howling somewhere not far away... We also bumped into some Shetland cattle, which graze on the heathland. Polly ran away from them but Basil decided to stand and bark at them. However, they were completely unphased and carried on eating the re-exposed grass taking no notice of him whatsoever. After a while Basil sidled off, looking a bit embarrassed, and then out of the fog appeared an old lady with her own pair of Westies, so the dogs all had a good play and then we went our separate ways back into the fogginess.
