Frozen Water Lilies

The pond has now gained a new layer of thinner, clear ice on top of the old thick crust. The water lilies are ragged and discoloured. Columns of bubbles rising to the surface are stopped in their tracks as if time has stood still. Still the fish can be glimpsed deep below the ice - life persists in spite of the apparent deadness.
