Ninth fastest bird

The Mallard is the 9th fastest bird.
My three do their best to prove this at every opportunity, doing 3 or 4 laps of the church spire and village every time we go to let them out or bring them in.
I intend to catch them in flight one fine day, but so far I am having to make do with the rare moment of getting them in lift off, as seen here.

I looked up Mallard and found this amusing piece, clearly the writer hasn't got a clue....
