Hockney Gallery
Back to work tomorrow so we decided to take a walk today to blast out the cobwebs. We walked through St Ives Estate to Dowley Gap and then along the Leeds Liverpool Canal to Saltaire. I've mentioned Saltaire in my journal before. It's a model village and a World Heritage Site. Titus Salt built the village around his mill, situated next to the canal and the River Aire. If you want to see it and more shots see here. He was one of those benevolent employers who provided housing, a school, hospital, library and of course church for his millworkers.
The mill was bought some years ago by Jonathan Silver and it now houses small businesses, a restaurant and the Hockney Gallery (as in David Hockney the artist, local to Bradford). I'm not a fan of his work but the gallery/bookshop is a beautiful airy place and a great use of the space. Some of the machinery from the mill remains as can be seen in this blip of the bookshop part of the Gallery.
