Of all my books this is one of my favourite ever finds, two bound sets of copies of Country Life magazine from 1912 and 1913. There's something fascinating about looking through the beautiful architectural photos, but even more-so about the Portrait Illustration on the cover of each. In most cases they're the sometimes pretty, sometimes dowdy daughters of Dukes and Earls...

This is the Lady Marjorie Manners, taken on her engagement to the Marquess of Anglesey. Something timid and rather sweet in the eyes...and I love the over-sized chair...
