Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Chloe's Choice

We took a zillion photos today and this was Chloe's choice!

This morning the five of us -- Mr. Fun, myself, Chloe, my sis, and her dog -- got in the car about 11:00 and drove to Santa Barbara, which is about 30 miles north. My sis hasn't been there in a long time so we thought it would be a fun and scenic drive, and it was.

Once we got off the freeway, we drove along the coast and out onto Stearn's Wharf. Then drove into downtown and found the main branch of the public library because, of course, we were looking for their version of the Friends of the Library store to purchase a few more cheap DVDs, and we did.

We ate lunch in Santa Barbara at the original Sambo's Restaurant (if you don't know what that is -- it's a long story). Lunch was delicious, then we walked the dogs for a while, stopped at the Whole Foods market, and headed south for Ventura.

Mr. Fun exited the freeway in north Ventura because he wanted to follow the bike route and retrace the path we cycled years ago when we pedaled our tandem bicycle from San Francisco to home. I'm not sure why we have to "retrace" -- I guess it's like living the adventure all over again. So my sis and I just behaved and humored him.

I convinced him to make a slight detour past the antique store, the one with "the hat" (see yesterday's page). We could see the hat still on display in the window, so I sighed relief and hoped that tomorrow might be the day that the hat becomes mine!

Back on the main route toward the beach house we passed a Break & Breakfast which used to be a Methodist church. We stopped to get a brochure and the owner invited us in to see this amazing place . . . stain glass windows, spiral staircase, elegant dining table, and a fireplace in each bedroom. It can be viewed here.

At 4:00 p.m. we arrived back at the beach house and the crowd was beginning to arrive for the best entertainment of the day -- the sunset. We had already taken too many photos, but what the heck! We just keep clicking . . . all the people and all the dogs and all the fun. When the photos fell out of the camera, it was the captures with the doggies that stole the show. So Chloe made the selection for today's page.

We've had a good day. Hope you have too.

Good night from Ventura, which does have a highway!
