Cearing Swamp

This cloud of smoke caught my attention, from the fifth floor of a building near the dorm. My friend said they were burning the swamp grass to clear more space for the trucking company. I wasn't quite sure how burning a swamp works, but a later pass by in the bus on my way to language class revealed mostly just the top of the grass was burnt. I'm hoping they don't expand too much, because I love to look out to the peaceful green landscape (and sometimes the water buffaloes that are resting in the shade of the big tree.)
