Ottoman in Cairo
Ok- I'm going to try to publish an iPhone photo as many days as I can to keep in touch and worry about the better pix from my Canon another way later..
Big tourist day today- began in thick fog, got sunny, then cloudy. This is Mohammed Ali mosque in the citadel ( a large medieval fortress built high up to guard against the crusaders in the 12th C.) So unfortunately not really Islamic, ( the leader mohammed Ali wanted to emulate the ottomans- his tomb is here)and not such a great example of an ottoman mosque either ( just my opinion- the ones in Turkey excel) but the sky had just cleared and I liked the lions guarding it.
Also went thru the Khan el-Khalili bazaar and spent the afternoon i'n the Egyptian museum- oh my- like the V and A inLondon- chick full of treasures including King Tut's, badly lit and displayed- but 4500 years old! very exciting actually! There is a new one bring built out near the pyramids - can't possibly have this atmosphere there but perhaps one will be able to see to read the little signs.
Then tonight we cheated death once again walking to dinner. There seem to be stoplights that are rarely used- only saw one that had a little green person RUNNING not walking. Otherwise one can hope for a policeman to stop the traffic. Or just run. The cars seem to make 4 lanes out of 2.
Tomorrow- the pyramids. Time for bed...
