Is it safe?
In Port Au Prince, Haiti, some 300 building assessors have been trained to evaluate the soundness of housing throughout the city. Given the massive destruction, people were afraid of returning to their homes and continue to linger in tent cities.
Almost 400,000 houses have been assessed and the stencils in my picture are used to mark the houses: green means the house is sound; yellow means it needs small repairs; red means it is not livable until structural repairs have been done.
