I had been expecting a weekend devoted to sorting out the bathroom lighting, but Flick informed me last night that we would be welcoming 9 extra people for lunch today. Flick had pre-cooked the meal (what would we do without chili con carne), and all that was left to do was tidy the house; find the large serving dishes; find the tablecloth; get soft drinks and ice cream; disinfect the loo; wash the kitchen floor; find 22 spoons.......
the occasion was a combination of celebrating Flick's father's birthday, Christmas, Archie's birth and a visit to the hospital for some to see Archie for the first time.
Emily came up from London as she hadn't seen her grandad or his "girlfriend" for over a year, Abigail, Neil and Henry also came as did Flick's brother, his wife and their little daughter Hannah.
The meal was timed for 12:30, so that it could be over, leaving enough time for Abigail could go to the hospital for Archie's 4:00 feed.
Henry and Hannah played wonderfully, and it was strange to think that although Hannah is one year younger than Henry, she is a full generation above him.
To photograph Hannah is like trying to capture a whisper. She moves fast and gracefully and always manages to beat the camera autofocus.
I've posted this one of her because I had a choice between her and a perfectly focussed lemon. I believe that although it is out of focus, there is something about the pose and the light that will never be repeated. And anyway, I can always re-shoot the lemon.
