Experiments
I've had a lot of fun today. It's been ages since I've had this much time on my hands. I've been practising left right and centre with my camera and books.
I learned that a still life, including a breakfast of tea, toast and marmalade, really does need a bit of life to make it interesting. I learned that careful placing of products makes or breaks the shot. Get the brand in the front in full focus and all.
I've learned that some days, like today when the sun was so high and so bright, I can't take good shots of my favourite looking up at buildings. They are just wiped out. I need more technical practice here I think, however I was grateful for my wee plastic bag to lie down on. I didn't even notice anyone staring.
I've learned that self portraits are incredibly hard - how do you know where to focus? Short of drawing on the walls in 'x' marks the spot fashion, I was nowhere near.
So I took the time to play around with the dials and noted down what I had done, and played some more. When I took them to the computer I liked this shot. I like its black and white, grainy quality. I like that the light from the window hit the corner and looks like a love heart and that my red lipstick adds to the heart theme.
I especially like that you can't see what I see when I look in the mirror.
All in all a wonderful day. Sometime it takes something to bring perspective. When we are reminded to the preciousness of life, its like being re-born. I've such a lot to live for and I promise to do my utmost to make the most of it.
